Returning to my alma mater as a basketball coach under the future Hall of Fame inductee, Eric Flannery, still fills with me with pride to this day. In my two seasons back in the Eagles Nest, this time serving as Video Coordinator and Assist Coach, we amassed a total record of 40-6. The 2019-2020 team will go down as one of the greatest St. Edward Boys Varsity Basketball teams in school history, finishing the season with a 25-1 record before Covid left our team with an unfinished story prior to our Elite 8 Appearance in the state playoffs. In the final rankings, according to MaxPreps, the Eagles finished the year ranked #1 in the state of Ohio and #18 nationally. Grant Huffman earned First Team All State and went on to play for Davidson College. Montorie Foster earn All-State Honorable Mention and went on to play wide receiver for Michigan State and most recently won the 2026 Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. Devontae Blanton tabbed Second Team All-State honors then went on to complete a decorated career for Eastern Kentucky University over a 5 year period - he now plays professional basketball in a top division overseas. Michael Bova, a rising sophomore at the time, earned Honorable Mention All-State.
